Statement on Gaza
Hello, I am Shannon Lloyd and I am standing as a candidate in the new constituency of Walsall and Bloxwich at the General Election on the 4 July.
As I have been spending more and more time talking to residents in the run up to the election, listening to local issues that a constituency MP should be able to help with, many of you have asked me what I think about the current situation in Gaza and the hostages still being held by Hamas.
As a former military officer who has served with the British Army around the world and with the United Nations in Bosnia, I have firsthand experience of the devastating effects of war on innocent civilian lives. The current situation in Gaza is a humanitarian crisis that urgently requires a ceasefire and the release of the remaining hostages. I think consideration should be given to United Nations troops being deployed to protect innocent civilians on both sides.
I believe in a two-state solution that will enable Palestinians and Israelis to co-exist in peace, they should determine their future together with the support of the United Nations and the International Community. Achieving peace and stability in the Middle East is crucial for global security and will allow those affected the most to try and rebuild their lives. In my experience nothing ever gets resolved through war.
If elected for the new constituency I will continue to advocate for a permanent ceasefire, the release of the hostages, and a two-state solution where both sides can live in peaceful co-existence with dignity and self-determination.
Most importantly for this election I believe a constituency MP should represent all members of the community. Having been born and brought up here I hope I am able to give you the reassurance that I will always put the people of Walsall and Bloxwich first and will do my best to ensure that your voice is heard.
